Worcester Common Oval Public Ice Skating Rink Open Through February 23rd

Worcester, MA (January 14, 2014) -

The rink is open for public skating:

• Saturdays and Sundays in January and February from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
• Thursday lunch time skate from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
• Holidays.
• School vacation weeks.

Oval special events:

• February 1st - Free Skate Sponsored by Baystate Savings Bank
• February 8th - North Star Figure Skating Show
• February 8th - Worcester Junior Sharks Game
• February 9th - Baystate Speed Skating at the Oval
• February 15th - Meet Worcester's Bravehearts
• February 22nd - College Night at the Worcester Common Oval
• February 23rd - Curling on the Common

Admission:

• Open skate is $2.
• Children 6 and under skate free.
• Skate rentals $3 with a $25 deposit per skate rental.
• Private rink rentals are $300 per hour with access to skate rentals (rentals will be $3 per pair and can be bulk purchased in advance if requested) and $275 per hour with no skate rentals (bookings are based on availability during scheduled season days; pre or post public hours).

The rink aptly named the Worcester Common Oval is professionally managed by SMG, the DCU Center's talented management team. The 12,000-square-foot rink, which is 4,000-square-feet larger than the size of the Rink at Rockefeller Center, has piped-in music, skate rentals, concessions, holiday lights and more, making it a fun and affordable family-friendly activity.

As with many endeavors, the rink is a private-public partnership that has garnered widespread support, with major sponsors and partners signing-on to assist with the financial and operational costs associated with the rink for a three-month period. The lead sponsor is Hanover Insurance Company. Additional sponsors include Fallon Community Health Plan, College of the Holy Cross, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Baystate Savings Bank, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare and Commerce Bank.
