Worcester Announces 8th Annual Out to Lunch Summer Concert Series and New Friday Farmers' Market

For Immediate Release: 5/22/2017 7:29 am

Worcester, MA (May 19, 2017) - The City of Worcester and the Worcester Cultural Coalition are pleased to announce the eighth installment of the wildly popular Out to Lunch Summer Concert Series taking place on the Worcester Common Oval from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.. This year, the concerts will kick off on Thursday, June 22nd and will continue throughout the summer to August 24th.

Building upon last year's every successful and well attended series; the public is invited to enjoy ten free, live concerts of various genres running from noon to 2 p.m.. The Out to Lunch series will continue to serve as a platform for talent, by showcasing local community groups during intermission with area restaurants, farmers and crafters selling their very finest of goods to those in the downtown area.

"The Out to Lunch series is a true testament of how vibrant and culturally rich our city is," said City Manager Edward M. Augustus, Jr. "From diverse food to various musical genres, young or old, everyone can enjoy their lunch in a welcoming family-friendly setting on the beautifully maintained Worcester Common."

"Out to Lunch has served as a catalyst for positive change within the Worcester Common," said Erin Williams, Cultural Development Officer for the City. "By using the power of the Arts and leveraging Worcester's creative community, Out to Lunch works as a great example of what creative placemaking can do for our city."

The City of Worcester also announces a new Friday Farmers' Market to the Worcester Common Oval this year! The Friday Farmers' Market will take place weekly beginning June 2nd and will continue to September 29th from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. The addition of the Friday Farmers' Market to the Worcester Common Oval will provide supplementary convenience and accessibility to the public for healthy and organic food options by offering a range of produce, meats and other hand crafted goods.

"We are pleased to support the local fresh food movement here in Worcester," said City Manager Edward M. Augustus, Jr. "With a number of restaurants offering farm to table menu options and local non-profits taking on the task of supplying food desserts with access to fresh and local produce, it seemed only fitting to add an additional farmers market here on the common."

Both of these event series are part of the #Worcester100 effort to bring 100 Events to the Common in 2017. Visitors to common events are encouraged to post their photos with the hashtag #Worcester100. The best photos will be featured on the City's social media platforms. With continuous new programming and improvements to the common, this venue proves to be the perfect hub for summer downtown activities.

As of May, Out to Lunch is sponsored in part by the City of Worcester, Worcester Cultural Coalition, Discover Central MA, Greater Worcester Community Foundation, Polar Beverages,Worcester Regional Transit Authority, with media sponsors including WICN radio, and Charter TV3.
