As winter storm cleanup efforts continue, City of Worcester residents and business owners are reminded to clear and treat sidewalks in front of their property within 10 hours after any winter storm in accordance with the City’s Sidewalk Snow Removal Ordinance.
Under this ordinance, owners and occupants of any residential or business property are required to clear and treat sidewalks adjacent to any public or private way within 10 hours after any winter storm. Snow and ice must be removed to a width of not less than four feet for the entire distance of said sidewalks. Sidewalks that abut crosswalks must be cleared up to the entrance of a crosswalk and around electronic signals. Residents who don’t comply with this ordinance are subject to a $75 fine.
Many Worcester Public School students walk to school or a bus stop. Failure to clear sidewalks results in a very dangerous scenario in which students are forced to walk in the street or risk injury walking on a slippery surface. Please take the time to clear sidewalks abutting your property and help keep our children and community at large safe.
The Declared Winter Parking Ban remains in place as of 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 19.
