Worcester, MA (February 10, 2012) - Philip D. Guerin, Director of Environmental Systems for the City of Worcester's Department of Public Works and Parks, has been selected by the White House as a Champion of Change. President Obama recently initiated a special series entitled "Champions of Change" to profile Americans from across the country who are doing extraordinary things to make a difference in their communities and whose work is helping our country rise to the challenge and compete in the 21st century.
Mr. Guerin, who has been with the City for more than 27 years, was nominated and chosen for his work to build a solar photovoltaic facility at the Water Filtration Plant. He along with ten other individuals from across the nation from various disciplines will tell their stories on how they worked to improve public infrastructure and improve quality of life within their communities. Nominations for Champions of Change are submitted to the White House Office of Public Engagement by various Federal agencies such as U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and others. Mr. Guerin was nominated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
"We are very proud of Phil and pleased that his commitment and dedication to his work has been recognized at this level," said DPW Commissioner Robert L. Moylan.
Mr. Guerin will be part of a panel discussion that will stream live on the White House Web site at www.whitehouse.gov/champions on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 1:30 PM.
