WORCESTER, Mass. –The westbound lane of Highland Street will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Park Avenue to Haviland Street starting Monday, July 29 until Friday, Aug. 23. The closure is to allow the public utility company Eversource to complete gas main replacement.
The replacement is necessary as the existing gas main was within the angle of influence of recent water work.
During the closure, eastbound traffic will be allowed to travel the road as normal and westbound traffic will be redirected to go southbound on Park Avenue to Pleasant Street.
Local traffic will be able to access their residences by using the open eastbound lane of Highland Street or by using Institute Road to access the areas east of Haviland Street. Local residents have been notified about the closure and Eversource posted message boards on Friday to alert drivers to the closure.
During this time, motorists are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes.
