WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester Department of Sustainability & Resilience will host its inaugural Green Worcester Summit “Building Resilience, Together” on Saturday, May 11.
The event will focus on showcasing actions that can be taken to improve the resilience and livability of the Worcester community. Attendees will learn about Miyawaki Forest pilots, CoolPockets, rain garden case studies, and other nature-based solutions for residents, businesses, and institutions in the city. The event is open to the public and all those interested in learning more about climate resilience are encouraged to attend.
During the summit, participants will have a unique opportunity to actively contribute to Worcester's sustainability and resilience efforts by participating in the planting of one of the City's first Miyawaki Forests in the Worcester Public Library Main Branch’s parking lot.
“We’re looking forward to hosting the first ever Green Worcester Summit. We chose the theme of Building Resilience to address the challenges of extreme summer heat and urban flooding in our city and to share nature-based solutions and other tangible steps towards building a more resilient city,” said Chief Sustainability Officer John Odell. “From getting your hands dirty planting our first innovative Miyawaki Forest to attending presentations on programs and initiatives, this event offers a day of education, inspiration, and collaborative action."
