The City of Worcester has released the following COVID-19 update:
To date, there have been 10,127 overall confirmed positive cases in Worcester to date. That is an increase in 1,012 cases since the City’s last COVID update on Wednesday, Nov. 25.
There were 192 new cases today.
Yesterday, Dec. 2, the City registered 278 new cases. That is the most cases registered in a single day during COVID since April 22, when there were 206.
Positive case counts in surrounding towns: Shrewsbury: 845 (increase of 116); Holden: 440 (increase of 101); Grafton: 323 (increase of 62); Leicester: 359 (increase of 61).
UMass Memorial Health Care and Saint Vincent Hospital, as of Thursday, Dec. 3, have a combined total of 144 COVID-positive in-patients (increase of 18) and 34 total COVID- positive ICU patients (decrease of 3). To date, the combined facilities have had 397 COVID-related deaths (increase of 9). A total of 686 employees have tested positive for the virus (increase of 59). All changes are from last week’s report.
There have been 306 deaths of Worcester residents.
There are 18 positive COVID cases among City employees and 25 in quarantine, for a total of 43.

Health Commissioner Dr. Matilde Castiel and Medical Director Dr. Michael Hirsh have been leading a series of sector-specific virtual Town Halls to educate and provide guidance about following COVID-19 guidelines and protocols. A Town Hall was held on Monday for Property Managers. Last week, a Town Hall we held for Retail and Restaurant businesses. Additional Town Halls will be held for Day Care Providers and charter, parochial and private schools.
Mayor Joseph M. Petty has announced the City will be sponsoring a Mask Up campaign for artists to design and submit their own mask. Stay tuned for more information on this fun and exciting effort.
