WORCESTER, Mass. – Rehabilitation of the Cambridge St. sewer interceptor will resume Monday, Nov. 27.
The work is located on Cambridge St. between Douglas St. and Dorrance St. Crews will be working seven days per week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is anticipated that the rehabilitation work will take three weeks to complete. During the rehabilitation work, it is anticipated that one lane of traffic will be open.
While the work is located between Douglas St. and Southbridge St., travel in the westbound lane will be closed at the work location. The work in this location is estimated to occur between November 27 and December 6. While the work is located between Southbridge St. and Dorrance St., the eastbound lane will be closed, and the work is scheduled to take place between December 7 and December 15.
Once the rehabilitation work is complete, crews will remove the equipment, and restore the street surface, which is anticipated to extend through the end of the year. Final paving will occur in the spring.
The purpose of this work is to improve the City’s aging sewer infrastructure. Trenchless rehabilitation methods were selected for this project and will line the existing 100+ year-old sewer to avoid the disruption of excavating the roadways and replacing the pipe itself. The project will extend the life of the sewer interceptor by improving its structural integrity, restoring capacity, and reducing inflow and infiltration. These repairs will reduce the likelihood of future sewer back-ups and overflows.
