Worcester, MA (November 1, 2010) - The City of Worcester became the first municipality in the Commonwealth to post its check register online, allowing the public to track how local tax dollars are spent and building upon ongoing steps toward greater transparency in government. The online check regsiter is available under Search Public Records, entitled, "Vendor Check Register." Citizens are able to search the register by vendor name, account type, department or check date range. Results display a check number, date of check issuance, vendor name, amount and account descriptions. Payment history is available for the current and previous fiscal year.
This newly developed application provides for greater transparency and accountability in government.
