WORCESTER – The public is invited to register for a free virtual training to learn about universal design of housing to be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27.
City officials have partnered with the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning’s Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access to demonstrate during the training the longterm benefits of universally designed buildings for Worcester’s growing housing market.
Attending “Universal Design of Housing for Inclusive Communities” may be of particular interest to city employees, board members, real estate and design professionals, property developers, and others interested in advancing universal design concepts in housing throughout Worcester.
City officials anticipate incentivizing upcoming housing projects to incorporate universal design.
The presentation will provide a basic level introduction to the concept of universal design for those with little or no prior knowledge of the concept. Presenters will describe universal design in the context of building inclusive communities and neighborhoods.
The training will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. and includes a question and answer period with Jonathan White, a licensed Architect in the State of Ohio with extensive experience in evaluating facilities and drawings for universal design and compliance with accessibility regulations. He is also co-author of Inclusive Housing: A Pattern Book.
The course is registered with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for learning units (LU).
Participants must register in advance at this link.
