The City of Worcester, Preservation Worcester and Seven Hills Foundation will co-host a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Stearns Tavern renovation project (140 Mill Street) on Tuesday, October 15 at 8:30 a.m.
The building, which dates to 1812, features a main house (1,428 square feet) and an annex (1,260 square feet). As part of a partnership between the City, Preservation Worcester and Seven Hills Foundation, the building was moved from 651 Park Avenue to its current location next to Coes Park on Mill Street in 2016.
To date, the project has received more than $1 million of in-kind and monetary donations from 115 private sector firms, unions, nonprofit and private organizations. Other financing for the project was provided by the City of Worcester ($900,000), a MassWorks grant ($400,000) and federal block grant funds ($150,000).
The Seven Hills Foundation will operate the building year-round conducting workforce training programs for its program participants. There will also be space available in the building for community use. In addition, Seven Hills will operate a café on the first floor.
