City offers Heat Safety Tips; Spray Parks, Pools and Beaches Open

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Be prepared by following these hot weather safety tips in extreme temperatures:
- Drink plenty of fluids (nonalcoholic), regardless of your activity level.
- Stay indoors and if at all possible, stay in an air-conditioned space.
- Take a cool shower or bath or move to an air-conditioned space to cool off.
- Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
- NEVER leave anyone or pets in a closed, parked vehicle.
- Visit adults at risk at least twice a day and closely watch them for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Infants and young children need more frequent monitoring.
- Limit any necessary outdoor activity to morning or evening hours.
- Cut down on exercise. If you must exercise, drink two to four glasses of cool, nonalcoholic fluids each hour. A sports beverage can replace salt and minerals lost in sweat.
- Try to rest often in shady areas.
- Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses and by putting on sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher.
Cooling off Options:
The City of Worcester has one pool, two spray parks and four beaches. The city is also home to three state beaches and pools. All sites are open to the public from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. every day during the summer.
