City Manager Edward M. Augustus, Jr. has announced the departure of Stephanie A. Williams, Chief Diversity Officer for the City of Worcester, as she moves on in her career.
Williams joined the City Manager’s Executive Cabinet as the leader of the Executive Office of Diversity and Inclusion in November of 2020. In addition to leading all efforts and initiatives to promote diversity, equity and inclusion within the City workforce during her tenure, Williams managed the implementation of City Manager Edward M. Augustus, Jr’s Executive Order, signed in February 2021, to dismantle structural and institutional racism.
“Among many achievements during her time with the City, Stephanie successfully executed the implementation of a recruitment tool called diversityjobs.com and began the process of building an internal Racial Equity Audit program,” said City Manager Augustus. “We are at the threshold of change. We have made and continue to make important structural changes to our internal processes as it pertains to the advancement of opportunity for all individuals. While we are sad to see Stephanie go, we stand committed to our goals of promoting a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion in the City workforce, and we are better off for having had Stephanie’s experience to help further our mission.”
Stephanie said, “Worcester is such an amazing City and I am pleased to have been able to contribute to some of the great work being done here.”
The City of Worcester will soon begin the recruitment and replacement process for a new Chief Diversity Officer. Until filled, Assistant City Manager Eric D. Batista will oversee ongoing operations.
