The City of Worcester's Parks and Recreation Division will once again partner with the American Red Cross to offer swimming lessons for students from grades 1-7 at Crompton Park Pool, Coes Beach and Bell Pond.
Making sure kids know how to swim is one of the most important safety skills they can learn! The program will introduce students to the fundamentals of aquatic skills and being safe around waterways. Topics that will be covered in this program will include, but not limited to; basic water safety rules, use of life jackets, submerging mouth, nose, eyes and opening eyes underwater, picking up submerged objects, swimming on front and back using arm & leg actions, recognizing a swimmer in distress and getting help, exhaling underwater, and back-float.
Classes are taught by knowledgeable and certified American Red Cross Lifeguards.
Program Swim Levels:
Tadpole: In this level students have no swim experience. All students must always be within the reach of the instructor. U.S. Coast Guard Approved Life Jackets will be provided (if needed) for class instructions ONLY. Student will learn Bobs, Float, Front Float & Safety around Water.
Fish: This level is for students who can move through the water on their own, with flotation. All students must always be within reach of the instructors, or be wearing an approved U.S. Coast Guard Flotation Device.
Dolphin: This level is for youth who can swim without a flotation device. The objectives is to teach them to swim with the proper strokes and techniques.
Shark: This level is for youth who can swim at least two proper strokes but want to improve techniques and endurance.
Rotating Program Schedule:
Crompton Park Pool: July 12-16, August 2-6, August 23-27
Coes Beach: July 19-23, August 9-13
Bell Pond: July 26-29, August 16-20
Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
