City Manager Edward M. Augustus Jr. announced Friday the provisional appointment of District Chief Andrew J. White as Deputy Chief of Operations for the Worcester Fire Department. White, 57, is a 34-year veteran of the Worcester Fire Department and currently serves as District Chief of Training.
White holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Fitchburg State College and is a certified member of the Massachusetts Fire Academy. Over the course of his career, special operations and safety have been District Chief White’s primary focus. As a firefighter, he was hand selected to organize the Special Operations Task Force and was tasked with designing and implementing training and equipment standards. He was co-founder of the Worcester Firefighters Safety and Survival Seminar and conducted seminars for 10 years following the Worcester Cold Storage Warehouse Fire. The seminar provided state of the art safety training to firefighters from 39 states.
As a Lieutenant, District Chief White joined the Massachusetts Hazardous Material Team and in 2013 when promoted to Captain he was detailed to the Training Division and led the Candidate Investigations Unit. He served as Drill Master for the Academy in 2014. He was promoted to District Chief of Training in 2015.

I appreciate his continuing dedication to lead the men and women of the Worcester Fire Department and to serve the residents of this community.”
