Worcester, MA (March 28, 2011) - The City of Worcester, in partnership with the Worcester Commission on Disabilities, has launched an online Emergency Preparedness Registry. The new web site will allow people with disabilities to register in advance with the City of Worcester so that emergency workers may better plan their responses to natural and manmade disasters.
The concept and format for the registry was developed after a careful review of national and statewide best practices. The intent is to serve as a useful and effective planning tool to assist emergency planners in preparing a better response for individuals who may experience challenges in an emergency situation. The form includes a survey of personal questions, including medical assistance, transportation requirements, dietary needs, allergies and other special needs.
Participation in this registry is voluntary. All personal information will be kept confidential under the law, but may be shared with other emergency response agencies in the future.
The new registry can be accessed at www.worcesterma.gov. Individuals are encouraged to register by clicking on Office of City Manager, then Office of Disabilities, and "Voluntary Emergency Preparedness Registry." Individuals who are unable to use a computer can contact the Office on Disabilities at (508) 799-1071 for assistance.
