Worcester, MA (March 23, 2016) - City Manager Edward M. Augustus, Jr. announced Wednesday that the Recreation Worcester afterschool program at Quinsigamond Elementary School will be expanded to four days a week due to the popularity of the program.
Starting Monday, March 28th, Recreation Worcester will take place on Monday through Thursday from 2:30 PM - 5:30 PM at Quinsigamond Elementary School, 14 Blackstone River Road, Worcester. Programming is for all youth in grades 3-12. The expanded schedule replaces the original program that took place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The change is being made to accommodate the larger than expected numbers of students taking advantage of the program. Since Recreation Worcester began eight weeks ago, Quinsigamond has seen an average of more than 100 students per day. Overall, the program is averaging 500 kids per week at six schools across the City.
Recreation Worcester's afterschool program began February 1st, and features programming including visual arts, music and physical recreation activities. Homework help is also available. The academic portion includes tutoring and learning about healthy behaviors and nutrition.
