The City of Worcester Department of Health & Human Services will host a Candlelight Vigil of Memory and Hope in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day on Friday, August 31 on the Worcester Common at 4:30 p.m.
The event will include a remembrance ceremony, speakers and information on recovery resources. At the conclusion of the event, there will be a candlelight procession from City Hall to the Winslow & Pleasant (Peace) Park on Pleasant Street. This event is free and open to the public.
International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held each year on August 31 to raise overdose awareness and reduce the stigma of drug-related death. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have died or have suffered a permanent injury as the result of a drug overdose.
