For Immediate Release: 8/2/2016 3:59 pm
Worcester, MA (August 2, 2016) - In an overnight operation on the nights of August 3rd and 4th, 2016, the project team for the Belmont Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project will conduct paving for the first half of the new bridge.
On the 3rd, the ramps to and from Belmont Street will receive base course paving. On the 4th, the intermediate paving course will be laid on the ramps and the bridge. The bridge itself will also receive a special course of protective paving.
Work operations will be conducted between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM on both days. During paving, the section of I-290 under Belmont Street will remain open, as will the existing Belmont Street Bridge, however, the ramps to and from Belmont Street will be closed for the full nine hour window allotted due to summer temperatures and the time needed for the pavement to cool to a rideable surface under such conditions.
All motorists should allow extra time for their trip and observe all traffic control signage and police details to ensure their own safety and that of project team members at work. Unless your destination is specifically within this section of Belmont Street, MassDOT requests that you seek an alternate route as dump trucks, paving machines and rollers will be moving in and out of the project's designated work zone and may cause delays at times throughout the hours noted above. Operations have been coordinated with local emergency services to ensure access by fire, police and EMS at all times. In case of inclement weather on any of the nights above, operations will shift ahead by one day.
