Worcester, MA (March 16, 2017) - Thank you to our Department of Public Works and Parks crews and contractors, who have been on the job more than 40 of the past 48 hours, and who today continue to work hard to clean up the remnants of Tuesday's storm. Starting at 7:30 AM Thursday, crews began plowing all 16 side street routes, checking each and every side street across the City and plowing where it's needed. Sanding of side streets will follow plowing. They will keep at it until all the work is done.
Because of the nature of Tuesday's storm, with its combination of snow and rain, many side streets were left with a hard pack of snow after having been plowed. This hard pack is churned up in subsequent days by a combination of sun and vehicles driving over it, causing issues on some side streets. The issue is particularly pronounced in densely-populated neighborhoods, where vehicles parked on the side of the road make plowing a challenge. Thank you for your patience as our hard-working men and women continue to make our city streets safe for all.
