| | | 1a. | Valuing and Managing Worcester's Urban Forests:
Presentation by Dr. Robert Krueger, WPI Assistant Professor of Geography, Director of the Worcester Community Project Center and Director of the Environmental Studies Program.
The Asian Long-horned Beetle crisis in Worcester has brought into sharp focus to the multiple values urban trees bring to the city and its residents. WPI research teams in conjunction with the City of Worcester, the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Worcester Tree Initiative have been working to assess the economic and environmental value of trees removed in the Burncoat/Greendale neighborhoods (to April 2009). In addition, WPI researchers have been collaborating with these organizations to develop resource management tools for tree stewardship. Both of these activities will support educational opportunities for Worcester residents in the planning and management of these valuable resources.
