RECONVENED TAX CLASSIFICATION HEARING

5a.

To determine tax rates for residential, commercial, industrial and personal properties for Fiscal Year 2014.

Mayor Petty reconvened the Tax Classification hearing at 7:14 P.M. and the following people spoke: 1. George Valeri, Worcester resident 2. Brian Brousseau, Leicester resident Mayor Petty closed the public speaking portion of the hearing and heard Councilors input. Councilor Rushton moved to recommend for consideration Line 159 – That the tax rate for Fiscal Year 2014 be set at $19.54 for Residential Property and $30.83 for Commercial, Industrial and Personal Property. Councilor Lukes moved to recommend for consideration Line 199 – That the tax rate for Fiscal Year 2014 be set at $18.98 for Residential Property and $32.23 for Commercial, Industrial and Personal Property. Councilor Toomey made a motion – see item #22d Councilor Russell moved to recommend for consideration Line 215 – That the tax rate for Fiscal Year 2014 be set at $18.76 for Residential Property and $32.79 for Commercial, Industrial and Personal Property. Councilor Palmieri made a motion – see item #22e Councilor Rivera moved to recommend for consideration Line 190 – That the tax rate for Fiscal Year 2014 be set at $19.11 for Residential Property and $31.91 for Commercial, Industrial and Personal Property. Mayor Petty moved to take up the motions for tax rate consideration in the order they were submitted. Councilor Rushton’s motion was taken up and adopted on a roll call vote of 6 Yeas and 5 Nays (Yeas – Economou, Eddy, O’Brien, Rushton, Toomey, Petty) (Nays – Germain, Lukes, Palmieri, Rivera, Russell). - see item #22f Councilors Lukes, Russell and Rivera’s motions for tax rate consideration – Not Put. Councilor O’Brien moved for reconsideration of the Tax Rate – Approved on a voice vote. Reconsideration denied on a roll call vote of 0 Yeas and 11 Nays.

Since this meeting would City Manager O’Brien’s final City Council meeting as City Manager, Mayor Petty allowed each of the Councilors and himself an opportunity to address City Manager Michael V. O’Brien concerning his many years of service to the City and to wish him well in his future endeavors. Mayor presented to him with two gifts: a street sign “Michael V. O’Brien Way” and an engraved mirror with Elm Park’s north mere and bridge motif.

Mayor Petty and each of the Councilors said a few words to their departing colleagues Councilor Joseph C. O’Brien, Councilor William J. Eddy and Councilor Michael J. Germain since this was their final City Council meeting.

Councilors Eddy, Germain and O’Brien were presented with a Monogrammed Chair for their years of service.
