The City of Worcester, along with the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, Worcester Business Development Corporation and Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives submitted a proposal to Amazon to locate their second headquarters (HQ2) to approximately 100 acres along Route 20 in Worcester.
According to Amazon and its HQ2 efforts, "the company expects to invest over $5 billion in construction and grow this second headquarters to include as many as 50,000 high-paying jobs." Amazon’s vision is "to be Earth's most customer centric company; to build a place where people can come to find and discover anything they might want to buy online."
As part of the proposal to lure the online retail giant, Worcester submitted a written proposal, marketing video and an incentive package that included:
Amazon has stated that they are "looking for a location with strong local and regional talent—particularly in software development and related fields—as well as a stable and business-friendly environment to continue hiring and innovating on behalf of our customers."
The City of Worcester proposal focused on our central location, higher education institutions, strong talent pipeline, affordable cost of living, accessibility, and quality of life.
